Inquire About Winter Futsal Slots

Futsal trades the full field for a 5v5 indoor game with a smaller, heavier ball — which means more touches, faster decisions, and a level of technical demand the full-field game doesn't ask for. It's a two-month season (January–February): one outdoor practice a week to keep the legwork sharp, one indoor game most weekends at an SF Rec Center, and she's grouped with her current SF SOL team or age group, so there's no re-onboarding, just more reps with people she already plays with.

The court doesn't leave room for a slow first touch: it's built around 1- and 2-touch passing, quick restarts (kick-ins instead of throw-ins), and — for goalkeepers — a faster distribution game of rolls and throws instead of punts. That's exactly the kind of technical sharpening that's hard to fit into a fall or spring practice.

For players who want to stay sharp without the commitment of a full season, or who are ready to layer in more advanced attacking moves and quicker transitions, Winter Futsal is built exactly for that window. And for families who just want the reps, the practice-only track runs its own curriculum — outdoor, on a full field, and built to work whether she's coming from Rec, Competitive, or SF SOL for the first time, all in the same session.

Why parents choose Winter Futsal

  • A genuinely different, faster-paced game — 1- and 2-touch passing, quick restarts, and constant decision-making that fall/spring soccer doesn't demand
  • Grouped with her existing SF SOL team or age group — no cold start
  • Solves the winter field-availability problem with indoor games at SF Rec Centers
  • A separate practice-only curriculum, built to work for any level — Rec, Competitive, or brand new to SF SOL, all in the same session

Where we typically play

Winter futsal games run indoors through SF Rec & Park's citywide Jose Coronado Indoor Soccer League — most often at rec centers in the Richmond and Sunset, plus others like Minnie & Lovie Ward in the Excelsior. The league assigns the exact gym by team and week, so it varies all winter.

Questions parents ask

Pulled from our full FAQ — the answers that come up most for this program.

What is Winter Futsal — and does she need futsal experience?
Futsal is a fast 5v5 indoor game with a smaller, heavier ball — more touches, quicker decisions. No futsal experience needed: it's a two-month season (January–February) with one outdoor practice a week and weekend indoor games at SF Rec Centers, and she's grouped with her existing SF SOL team or age group. There's also a practice-only option for families who want the reps without weekend games.
Does Winter Futsal require a full-season commitment or a tryout?
Neither. Futsal is open registration and runs just two months — it's built exactly for players who want to stay sharp between fall and spring without committing to a full league season.
