Please introduce yourself.

My name is Magnolia Mulvihill, and my pronouns are she/her. I play for Team Courage 05/06. I have been playing soccer since I was 3. I have a twin brother who I am close with, and I love to travel.

How and when did you start with GLG?

I think about 4 years ago. I transferred for more opportunities in leadership. I was on a different club team but felt like I wanted more of a challenge, so I found GLG.

What has been your experience as a member of the LGBTQ+ community in soccer and/or GLG?

Comfortable and fun. Excepted and loved as me. I was nervous to be my true self when I first joined because I was already the new player, but I soon felt very comfortable, and my teammates were all accepting.

What advice would you give to a young soccer player/someone who plays sports who is part of the LGBTQ+ community?

Be yourself! It’s really hard to always have a mask on, and soccer is a good place to be yourself because everyone loves soccer and wants to play. Respecting someone for their character and not their looks or flaws is something we all need to do more of. GLG sets a great example of how to be inclusive and loving of everyone.

What do you hope will change in sports for members of the LGBTQ+ community?

Equality in participation. Also being comfortable being out to a team.

What are your goals and dreams for the future?

I want to become a firefighter or a doctor. I have always wanted to use my life to help people. I have struggled with mental health in the past, and I am so grateful for everyone who has helped me, so I want to give back. I also want to coach soccer during college and my young years. I love soccer so much, and it’s a beautiful thing to watch kids bond over the game.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Love GLG!
